AB617 Communities are designated by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as environmentally-impacted California neighborhoods. The Digital Equity in AB617 Communities Project empowers digitally-disadvantaged communities to achieve Digital Equity through extensive outreach in-language and in-culture, to connect residents to the Internet with an affordable service."
This investment will benefit directly approximately 450,000 very low-income residents in 5 of the most digitally-disadvantaged neighborhoods, while fostering collaboration between statewide offices to tackle poverty through harnessing the power of technology to transform neighborhoods.
Support will be provided to local residents to access the Internet for information, monitoring the environment, and reporting incidents so that residents can be agents of transformation. Support will include guidance with signing up for an affordable Internet service plan, as well as Digital Literacy training"
